An emerging trend in large companies is the deployments of small-scale, hybrid organizational transformations that avoid the typical barriers to organizational change such as bureaucracy, scale, and complexity. These innovative OD programs pick a small team/department to function somewhat independently of the larger system as a ‘proof of concept.’ These hybrid deployments then operate somewhat independently of the larger system – thereby working under/beyond the standard operating procedures of the larger organization. When providing OD assistance on these types of programs, an unorthodox approach is most effective.

Session Objectives:

  • Contrast comprehensive vs. hybrid organizational transformations
  • Outline a recommended approach to leading a hybrid organizational transformation
  • Present pros and cons to using a hybrid approach to common project factors
  • Discuss unique leadership and sponsorship requirements for successful implementations
